Police Still Waiting for AGC to Decide on Zakir Naik’s Case

Police are still waiting for a response from the Attorney-General’s Chambers on any further action regarding controversial preacher Zakir Naik, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said today.

Hamid last announced in September that police had handed over investigation papers to the AGC.

“We are still waiting for further instructions from the AGC. We have already referred the investigation papers to them,” he told reporters at the police academy in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur today.

Police began investigating Zakir after receiving 515 police reports against him over speeches during a ceramah in Kota Baru in August.

He was investigated under the Penal Code for intentional insult with added intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

Zakir, who has permanent residency in Malaysia from the previous Barisan Nasional government, has been barred by police from speaking in public. – TMI
