Rumours that a federal minister will hold a press conference to announce his resignation over sex videos implicating him are false, his representatives said today.

A spokesman from the minister’s office said a supposed invitation calling for coverage of the alleged press conference this evening was false.

The invitation circulating on social media purports that the minister will either announce his resignation or take a leave of absence.

It further claimed the minister would then depart the country this evening.

The minister’s spokesman issued the denial when asked to verify the invitation.

Earlier, it was reported that the minister was indeed in Sandakan on May 10 and 11.

He was among party leaders who came to Sandakan to campaign for DAP candidate Vivian Wong in the May 11 by-election.

The dates correspond with the claim by the senior private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz, who confessed that it was indeed him and the minister in the gay sex video that has gone viral.

He claimed the sex act in the video happened on May 11.

It is understood that the minister left Sandakan early in the morning on polling day on May 11.

Reportedly, the minister attended the weekly Cabinet meeting as usual today.

He was seen at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Perdana Putra Complex, where the Cabinet meeting room is located, at around 8.45am.

It is understood that the minister had an appointment with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at 9am, before the Cabinet meeting began.

The topic of the meeting between Dr Mahathir and the said minister is, however, unknown.

The minister in question has yet to comment on the videos.
