Lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah today protested against information “leaks” about Rosmah Mansor and Najib Razak given to the media, saying it was unfair.

He said even the couple’s lawyers did know what their clients would be charged with or how many charges would be brought against them, yet the media could obtain the information beforehand.

“Like today’s news, (that Rosmah would face) 17 charges. We didn’t know.

“Who is leaking this info in order to prejudice our clients?” Shafee told reporters outside the Kuala Lumpur courts where Rosmah had been charged with 12 counts of money-laundering and five counts of tax evasion this morning.

Shafee said his role as a lawyer was to be an “equaliser” against leaks to the media.

“I’m not seeking publicity, I’m here to be the equaliser. The news being fed to you is not fair.”
