Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun today denied claims he has received requests from four Barisan Nasional members of parliament to change their sitting arrangement in the House.

In a statement today, Azhar described the allegation, which was published on a news portal today, as a lie and slander.

“I deny the news report and would like to state here that I did not receive any requests from the relevant MPs as claimed.

“I take this news as a lie and a slander towards me,” he said.

The Malaysia Dateline report, written in Bahasa Malaysia and titled “Zahid and three other MPs also requested to sit with the Independent bloc”, was published at around 2pm today.

Citing a party insider, the report named Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (Pontian), Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris (Jerantut) dan Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang), as the other three Umno applicants.

The report alleged that the four BN MPs had asked Azhar for their seats to be switched, but they claimed their requests were rejected by the Speaker.

Earlier today, it was reported that Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (BN-Gua Musang) had sent a letter to Azhar to inform the latter that he wished to change his seat in the Dewan Rakyat to a place “closer to the independent bloc”.

This was confirmed by Azhar who said that he had received the notification and had instructed the Dewan Rakyat secretary to make the necessary arrangements for Tengku Razaleigh.
