Gua Musang member of parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has sent a notification to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun that he will no longer be sitting with Perikatan Nasional MPs in the Lower House.

In the letter dated July 26, Tengku Razaleigh asked Azhar to assign him to a new seat that is “closer to the independent bloc”.

“From the start, I have never supported, and I’ve never been with the government that was formed under the PN name.

“I don’t know whether other MPs from my party have spoken with your honourable speaker about their seating arrangements.

“Whatever it is that they want to do, I am willingly making a request now to switch my seat. This is in accordance with the spirit and struggles of Barisan Nasional, Umno, and especially my voters and Malaysians for demanding there should not be any form of support for this failed government,” he wrote.

The letter was also sent to several Umno leaders, including its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, former party president and current BN advisor Datuk Seri Najib Razak, secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir and the Gua Musang Umno secretary. – NST
