Independent candidate Stevie Chan Keng Leong has lodged a police report over alleged electoral bribery committed by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will be contesting the Oct 13 polls under the Pakatan Harapan banner.

Chan was referring to several projects announced by Anwar during his election campaign, including a five-star resort, a flight school, and an education programme for school students.

“To me, this is a clear violation of the law,” he told reporters when met outside the Port Dickson police district headquarters on Monday (Oct 8).

Chan left the police station with his aide before reporters could ask further questions, saying that he has to rush to another event.

The portal is a collective initiative by parent-teacher associations from various schools here as well as some non-governmental organisations.

By launching the education portal, Chan is alleging that Anwar has committed an offence under Section 10(a) and (b) of the Electoral Offences Act 1954.

“I made this police report because I see the culture of giving gifts and making sweet promises that have tainted our election process for so many years is continuing today.

“We must stand firm to ensure the ‘New Malaysia’ that was achieved on May 9 remains clean and free from the old politics,” said Chan.

He is scheduled to hold another press conference on the same topic in the evening, said his aide.

“(The press conference) is subject to change based on further investigation by the police. Chan is required to talk to someone at the police station at 4pm,” said the aide. – The Star
