Syariah chief judge Mohd Na’im Mokhtar is mulling suing several individuals in the Syariah Judiciary Department whom he claimed were behind the recent sexual harassment allegation against him.

Na’im, in a police report yesterday, claimed that there were individuals within the syariah judiciary who were eyeing his post and that they had allegedly conspired to bring him down.

According to the judge’s lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader, they are looking into the option of filing a legal suit against the individuals, whom Na’im had not publicly identified.

“We are still studying the situation and will decide soon,” the legal counsel told Malaysiakini.

Na’im was recently implicated in a sexual harassment allegation after a woman filed a police report in December, claiming that she found the judge naked in her bedroom.

According to news reports, the incident allegedly happened in August 2020 when Na’im visited the woman’s house, where she was living with her bed-ridden husband.

The judge, however, had denied the accusation and alleged that the woman had filed a false report with the police. Na’im had also lodged a police report against her.

In his latest police report yesterday, he claimed that there was a conspiracy by several individuals within the Syariah Judiciary Department to bring him down.

Na’im also claimed that it was not the individuals’ first attempt to topple him, saying that they have previously tried to implicate him with another woman, but this was purportedly unsuccessful.

Earlier today, Akberdin’s law firm had issued a letter of demand against former Umno leader Lokman Noor Adam, whom Na’im plans to sue for defamation.

This came after the politician allegedly attacked Na’im’s credibility over the case in a video clip that had since gone viral on social media. – Malaysiakini
