DAP veteran Dr Tan Seng Giaw, 75, has purportedly sent out a WhatsApp message, warning the people against posting “anti-Government dirty remarks” on social media.
The message also claimed that nine Chinese youths had been arrested and sent to the Sungai Buloh prison for 60 days without trial.
“Why would I send out a message like that?” Tan told The Star on Monday (April 16).
He added that he will consider making a police report.
Asked whether he suspected anyone and why the author of the message resorted to such an act, he said he did not know but added that whoever did it was vile.
“These are criminals and eventually criminals will be caught.”
The DAP national vice-chairman labelled the message as racial in nature.
“We want all races to live in harmony. This message is completely unnecessary and I have never done such a thing in my entire life.
“There’s no need for anybody to cause racial disharmony.”
Tan had received the message three days ago after it was forwarded by a reporter.
The message was reportedly penned in Chinese and was addressed to “all Bro & Sis of Chinese race”, telling them not to post anti-government remarks on social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp or WeChat.
“Today in KL area (Kepong & Jinjang), 9 Chinese youths have been house arrested and placed into Penjara Sungai Buloh for 60 days without court hearing. Pls share out,” the message continued, before ending with the line “By Dr Tan Seng Giaw”.
Tan also said he was unfairly accused by many on social media due to his stand on the 1MDB issue.
A former Public Accounts Committee (PAC) deputy chairman, he had said in 2016 that there wasn’t anything in the PAC report on 1MDB which implicated Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“They said I have received billions and so I am a billionaire now and richer than Bill Gates,” he was quoted saying.
Tan is an eight-term Kepong MP but was dropped from the DAP candidates’ list for this election.
