The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized six luxury homes and a plot of land belonging to a “Tan Sri” as part of an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds allocated for highway construction in the Klang Valley.
Citing a source, The Star reported that the properties—estimated to be worth approximately RM12 million—were confiscated following a raid by the MACC’s investigation division.
“During the raid, the MACC also discovered a thoroughbred horse worth hundreds of thousands of ringgit, believed to have been purchased using sukuk funds,” the agency stated.
The MACC said the individual and his wife had been summoned for questioning, though only the wife appeared, as her husband is reportedly facing health issues.
The agency added it plans to call between 30 and 50 witnesses to assist in the investigation. Efforts are underway to trace the couple’s assets both locally and abroad.
Earlier this week, the MACC raided two residences belonging to the Tan Sri in Kuala Lumpur, seizing luxury assets valued at RM32 million.
Investigators confiscated nine luxury vehicles—including Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, and Range Rover models—worth nearly RM7 million, along with 217 luxury watches valued at RM5 million, 27 designer handbags worth over RM1 million, and jewellery estimated at RM4 million.
A hidden storage area containing premium alcoholic beverages worth RM3 million was also uncovered, believed to be tied to money laundering activities.
In addition, the MACC seized a RM12 million luxury condominium. All items are being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA) 2001.
The probe, which began on 9 May, follows earlier arrests of four individuals accused of submitting false claims totalling RM360 million for a highway project between 2016 and 2017. Over RM36 million in assets have been seized to date.
