Umno has received the resignation letter of Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who announced his departure from the party to join PKR.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the receipt of the letter.
Meanwhile, PKR said it has not yet received an official membership application from Tengku Zafrul. According to PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh, all applications are submitted online and go through a standard procedure.
“The application will then be processed and brought before the party’s central leadership council meeting,” she said on Saturday (May 31). “It will be thoroughly considered before a decision is made, taking into account various perspectives, including the views of our allies in the Unity Government and the grassroots.”
Fuziah also noted that Tengku Zafrul would be performing the haj pilgrimage and wished him a safe journey.

On Friday, Tengku Zafrul announced on social media that he was leaving Umno to join PKR. He said he had resigned as an Umno supreme council member, Kota Raja division leader, and party member.
Tengku Zafrul currently serves as the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry.
