A mother and daughter pair were left perplexed today as to why they received postal voting ballots despite not registering for it.

Sit Nyok Ngor and her mother Phun Sam had their ballots mailed to Sit’s home at Taman Rapat Perdana in Gunung Rapat on Wednesday afternoon.

“My mother and I had never registered to vote via postal vote and yet the ballot papers were sent to us,” said the 55-year-old Sit at a media conference called by Gopeng PKR.

Sit said she had never voted before while her mother had voted prior to 1989.

“We tried to vote in 2008 and 2013 but got rejected as the Election Commission said our names are under postal votes,” she added.

“The Commission told us if we wanted to revert to normal voting procedure, we need to go to the post office to change the details but we never got around to change it,” she said, noting that this was their first time receiving ballot papers via post.

Simpang Pulai PKR candidate Tan Kar Hing, who was also present, said he stumbled on the duo as he was canvassing for votes this morning.

“They asked me what are the envelopes for,” he said.

“How can they be postal voters if they did not register for it?” he asked, adding the electoral rolls are highly suspicious.

At the time of writing, the Election Commision has yet to respond to queries from the MalayMail. – Malay Mail
