Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali has been removed as patron of Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia (WTM) due to a “committee reshuffle.”

WTM is the national association to promote the wheelchair sport in the country.

An aide said that the letter was written on Dec 28 last year after a resolution was passed at the association’s annual general meeting, but it was only delivered a week ago.

Siti Hasmah’s daughter and civil rights activist Marina Mahathir informed about WTM’s decision in a Twitter posting yesterday morning, just two days after the 91-year old was quizzed by the police over her involvement in the ‘Women AGainst Toxic Politics’ rally on Sept 10 last year.

“Just to highlight more silliness: the Wheelchair Tennis Association actually passed a resolution to ask Mum to step down as patron,” Marina said in the tweet.

“That’s how petty it’s getting,” she added.

Marina said her mother was fine with the decision, FMT reported.
