The Prego Mushroom Carbonara Creamy Pasta Sauce (665 grammes) with batch number 2022081716 has been recalled due to errors in its processing.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah called on the public to be wary and for sellers to take the product off their shelves.

According to him, the pasta sauce was produced in Malaysia with an expiry date of August 17, 2023, and a time code of 22:18 to 23:20.

He said the manufacturer’s recall was made when it was discovered that products in the batch were defective, including having an unpleasant smell, colour change, watery appearance and separate layers of liquid.

“The Health Ministry through the Food Safety and Quality Division also received a notification from Campbell Cheong Chan (M) Sdn Bhd, which confirms that the product is also sold in Malaysia.

“The company has identified the cause of the damage due to errors in processing and is in the process of voluntarily recalling the product from the market.

“In this regard, the Food Safety and Quality Division is monitoring the product recall process. Accordingly, sellers must stop selling the product immediately.

“For consumers who have purchased (the sauce, they) should not consume the product and those who have consumed it are advised to see a medical officer if they feel unwell or experience food poisoning symptoms,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham also urged consumers to take precautions before consuming food to prevent poisoning.

“The Health Ministry is always aware and concerned about things that can threaten the health of consumers.
