- True Fitness members to continue fitness regime with Chi Fitness
- No arrangements as yet for True Spa members
- Thai operations closed with no prior notice or information on refunds to members
Updated: There is already backlash from members who are fuming that True Fitness did not give them prior notice of its closure. Patrons who turned up at the gyms found their shutters closed, with a paper regarding the sudden closure stuck onto it. Some members are considering taking legal action over the matter.
True Fitness Malaysia has released a statement on its website that it has ceased its operations in the country with effect from today due to its business being no longer financially viable in these challenging economic times.
Arrangements have been made with Chi Fitness for True Fitness members to continue their fitness regime there.
The statement said: “True Fitness members in Malaysia will have access to all Chi clubs except those located in Bangsar, Bangsar South (Nexus) and the Northern Clubs. Under the arrangement, True Fitness has purchased memberships for members to redeem and personal training sessions to be utilised at Chi Fitness. Redemptions can be completed online. We will be sharing further details on the mechanics for redemption at a later date. More details of this fitness provider can be found on their official website at chi-fitness.com.
“The validity of these redemptions for membership months and personal training will be for 24 months from 3 July 2017 or until all membership months and personal training sessions have been utilised. We are unable to refund in cash the unused portions of your membership months or personal training sessions.
“All terms of redemptions have been set by True Fitness Malaysia. We regret that Chi Fitness will not be able to facilitate service redemption queries. If you have any questions regarding this or any other matter, please contact our customer service at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our customer service representatives will not be present at Chi Fitness.
As for True Spa, the company is seeking a reputable service provider to service members’ sessions that have not yet been utilised and will be informing affected members when it has more details.
True Fitness centres were located at Jaya 33, Sunway Giza and USJ 10.
On Jun 8, Thai media reported that True Fitness in Thailand had closed its operations without any prior notice, angering customers in the process. The company had allegedly not contacted its members to offer refunds or compensation.
A statement released on True Fitness’ Thai website on Friday said the chain’s businesses in the country were “no longer financially viable due to evolving market conditions”, the same reason cited by the Malaysian operations.
Some True Fitness members, some having signed long-term contracts with the chain for thousands of baht, threatened to sue the chain.
True Fitness, established in Singapore in 2004, had three outlets in Bangkok in 2016. Two outlets closed in November last year and Jun 3, respectively, with the last outlet closing on Jun 8.
Reportedly, the closures in Thailand and Malaysia would not affect True Fitness outlets in Singapore nor its expansion plans in China.
