Stage four colon and liver cancer victim Alfian Rizal died yesterday evening, nine days after he and his sweetheart Andrea Adrianna Law Abdullah became man and wife.
The 34-year-old died at his parents’ home in Ayer Keroh at 5pm, with Andrea and his parents, Rizal Abdullah and Aisah Selamat, beside him.
Andrea, 31, had converted to Islam to marry Alfian on Aug 26 despite his critical illness diagnosed in March.
Alfian’s remains were taken to his mother’s village in Parit Yaani Tengah, Batu Pahat, to be buried. According to his wishes, the final rites were to be conducted by his uncle Sulaiman.
“He was close to his uncle and had informed us earlier that should anything happen to him he is to be buried there (village) by his uncle,” Rizal told Berita Harian.
“I knew in my heart that he will leave us today and I accept Allah’s will,” he added.
Alfian was the only child of Rizal, 61, and Aisah, 57.
He had hoped to seek chemotherapy treatment in Guangzhou, China, following his marriage.
