Metro Kajang Bhd MD Eddy Chen New PR1MA Chairman

Metro Kajang Berhad managing director Tan Sri Eddy Chen has been appointed as the new chairman of Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA), effective tomorrow Oct 1.Chen, who was Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (REHDA) president from 1998 to 2002, is also the immediate past chairman of Rehda Institute, a non-profit foundation which acts as the training and research arm of the association.
A check on Rehda’s website reveals that Chen – who was previously named CEO of the year – also sits on various government-private sector committees related to the housing and real estate industry, including the Pemudah national task force that deals with abandoned housing projects nationwide.
With over three decades of experience in the real estate industry, Chen takes over from Alies Nor Abdul, who resigned on June 1.
The PMO also announced the appointment of three new PR1MA board members namely Datuk Faris Yahaya, Mohd Ali Abdul Karim and Ahmad Shahrul Mohamed, whose appointments are also effective Oct 1.
The 1Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme or Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) was established in 2012 to plan, develop, construct and maintain high-quality housing with lifestyle concepts for middle-income households in key urban centres.
PR1MA homes come in various types and sizes, and priced between RM100,000 to RM400,000.
PR1MA is managed by the government-owned Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
Lawyer Syed Zaid New Executive Chairman of Securities Commission
Datuk Syed Zaid Albar has been appointed Executive Chairman of the Securities Commission (SC) effective Oct 15, 2018, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced yesterday.
The PMO said Syed Zaid was chosen for the post as his expertise encompasses various sectors, such as corporate law, capital markets, sukuk and Islamic and conventional banking.
With more than 38 years of experience in legal practice, Syed Zaid was previously a member of the compensation fund inquiry panel and member of the appeals committee at Bursa Malaysia Bhd.
He was also a member of the Islamic Banking Law Review committee at Bank Negara Malaysia, the PMO added.
He is also the secretary to the Perdana Leadership Foundation.
Syed Zaid graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Law in the United Kingdom and was admitted as an Utter Barrister of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London in 1979.
A year later, he became an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
He also served at Skrine & Co and founded his own law firm, Albar & Partners.
Syed Zaid replaces Tan Sri Ranjit Ajit Singh, whose tenure was only expected to end in 2019.
Allianz CEO Zakri Khir New Socso Boss

Allianz General Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad CEO Zakri Khir has been appointed the new chairman of the Social Security Organisation (Socso), effective Oct 8.
The appointment was announced by the PMO in a statement issued today.
“Zakri is a fellow of the Malaysian Insurance Institute and has 30 years experience in insurance and portfolio management,” it said.
He takes over from Aseh Che Mat.
