Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari has quit as acting chairman of The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0).
His resignation will take effect on Monday.
Shahrul, who has an engineering background, has been called to serve as press secretary to Education Minister Maszlee Malik.
The steering committee of the electoral reform group will hold a meeting on Nov 10 to elect a new chairperson and steering committee.
In the meantime, all matters will be referred to the executive director, Yap Swee Seng, as the caretaker.
“Bersih 2.0 would like to thank the contributions made by Shahrul Aman in the struggle for democracy and clean and fair elections,” the group said in a statement.
“We congratulate (him)… and wish him all the best for his new role and new tasks.”
Shahrul took over duties in March this year from Maria Chin Abdullah, who resigned to contest as Petaling Jaya MP in the May 9 general election. He had been her deputy before that.
