Tan Kok Wai, Fong Kui Lun and Phee Boon Poh pull out of DAP CEC polls.

Former Penang executive councillor Datuk Seri Phee Boon Poh is the latest veteran DAP leader to withdraw from the upcoming Central Executive Committee (CEC) election.

“I would like to inform everyone that I have decided not to contest in the election and will be withdrawing my nomination today,” said Phee, who served as an assemblyman for five terms.

In a Facebook post, he expressed gratitude to DAP branches for nominating him but stated it was time to make way for younger leaders.

Phee also paid tribute to DAP stalwart Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, and other party veterans who had made sacrifices over the years.

“I myself have made numerous sacrifices and financial contributions to ensure DAP Penang’s survival during the toughest times, and I did so willingly, without expecting any reward or recognition.

“Therefore, as a veteran leader, I believe the time has come to give the next generation a better future and allow them to lead the party in a new direction.

“We must accept that the party does not owe us anything,” he said.
