One of those affected had to be taken to the hospital while the others were treated for light injuries after PM Najib Razak announced the scheme.
About 30 taxi drivers sustained light injuries during a rush to receive the federal government’s 1Malaysia Taxi Assistance Card at the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park in Serdang yesterday.
The incident happened after Prime Minister Najib Razak announced the aid scheme to a gathering of 15,000 taxi drivers at the venue.
The affected drivers received immediate treatment, with one of them needing to be taken to the hospital.
In a statement, the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) said it would bear the cost of all medical treatment for the injured.
It said its enforcement officers, together with police and Rela members on duty, took immediate measures to manage the late afternoon situation and brought it under control by 7pm.
It said the incident was the result of “some participants not following the required steps to systematically manage the event when they entered the hall to collect their cards”.
SPAD said those who had not obtained their cards could claim them at its offices across the country, except its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
It said the card would be available for collection from the offices in Kelana Jaya, Penang, Kuala Terengganu and Johor Bahru from April 16 till July 16.
It could also be obtained at SPAD branches in Melaka, Ipoh, Alor Setar, Kota Bahru and Kuantan from April 17 till July 16.
“Drivers in Sabah and Sarawak can get their cards from the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) offices in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. The dates for these will be announced by the CVLB offices in Sabah and Sarawak,” the statement said.
