In the incident that took place at 2pm last Wednesday, the victim’s father, Jafrul Nizam Jaafar, 38, and mother, Marziana Mahadzir, 37, were involved in a car chase that ended in a three-car accident in Jalan Anak Bukit, Alor Setar.
Jafrul, who was driving a Perodua MyVi, attempted to overtake Marziana’s Perodua MyVi with their son in it.
Subsequently, Marziana’s car skidded and crashed into a tree on the road divider while Jafrul’s car lost control and collided with a Proton Saga FLX driven by Faizal Baharom, 36, an armed forces personnel.
It was learnt that before the accident occurred, Jafrul Nizam was believed to have quarrelled with his former wife over the custody of their son.
