A peaceful and joyous Hari Raya to celebrate.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, performed Aidilfitri prayers at the Federal Territory Mosque, along with over 17,000 worshippers.
His Majesty arrived at the mosque at 8.30am.
The King was accompanied by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Najib’s
wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Also present were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and other VIPs.
After that, Najib and other ministers had breakfast with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Negara.
People were seen queuing up at the entrance of the Prime Minister’s residence as early as 8 am for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house held by Najib at the Seri Perdana complex.
Scheduled to be held from 10 am to 4 pm, the event on began at 11 am, with Najib arriving at 11:30 am.
Also playing host at the Cabinet Open House Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, International, Trade and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohammad and Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Diplomats and leaders from both sides of the political divide, as well as representatives from non-governmental organisations, also graced the event.
Guests were served a variety of food, mostly local delicacies such as satay, rendang, lemang, ketupat and nasi himpit, and those leaving after the meal also received a goodie pack while children were given ‘duit raya’ cash packets.
