The unfathomable torment of a 12-year-old – raped by her own father every night for one whole year.

A labourer was slapped with the maximum jail sentence of 30 years by the Sessions Court in Sarikei yesterday for raping his teenage daughter.

The accused, 38, was also ordered to be given 18 strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to 16 counts of committing incest with the victim, who is now 13, since January last year.

He admitted to 12 counts of having sexual intercourse with his daughter in a room inside his house at a village in Sungai Bulat between January and December last year.

He also pleaded guilty to four counts of committing the same offence at the same location on multiple occasions since July this year.

It is learnt the victim shared the same bedroom with her parents and a two-year-old sister while her two brothers slept in another room.

The man had continuously raped the victim every night from January until December last year.

The girl then went to stay at the school’s hostel.

Earlier this year, she diagnosed with ovarian cyst and had to have one of her ovaries removed during a surgery.

She again faced the same ordeal of being a victim of her father’s lust when she returned home during the weekend in July, August and early this month.

On the morning when she was raped on Sept 5, she complained of continuous stomach pain near the spot of the surgery to her mother.

Unable to contain her predicament to herself any longer, she later confided in a teacher about her father’s act.

The man was charged under Section 376B (1) of the Penal Code, which carries the maximum 30 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector G Anbarasu proposed to the court to impose the deterrent sentence against the accused.

The accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency in the sentencing.

Judge Maris Agan later sentenced him to 30 years’ jail for each of the charges, which were to run concurrently beginning yesterday.
