PKR president Anwar Ibrahim today questioned if Dr Mahathir Mohamad had pre-empted the Conference of Rulers’ meeting tomorrow by announcing the results of the king’s interviews with lawmakers.
The Conference of Rulers is set to meet tomorrow before Friday prayers to discuss the current political crisis.
However, Dr Mahathir today announced that Parliament will be summoned next Monday to find a leader who has the majority support of the Dewan Rakyat and become prime minister.
This, added the interim prime minister, is being done as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has not been able to find any MP who commands majority support in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat.
“It’s regrettable that Malaysia has to wait as this issue cannot be resolved,” said Anwar.
“The political instability was caused by the actions of an individual who thirsts for power, causing people to wait and for the economy to be impacted.
“I’m just surprised that the result was announced before the Conference of Rulers’ meeting tomorrow.

“Did Dr Mahathir pressure the king to make this announcement?” he asked.
Anwar added that the Conference of Rulers should have been given the chance to discuss and decide the results of the interviews for the future of the country. – TMI
