Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his gratitude to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for sacrificing his time and energy for Pakatan Harapan, to bring about change in the general election.

Anwar, in a statement, said Dr Mahathir was positioned as a leader due to his experience, his contribution to the country and his willingness to embrace change.

Anwar was at the Kuala Lumpur High Court for a defamation case.

He is currently serving a jail sentence in Sungai Buloh prison and is expected to be released on June 8.

He was jailed in February 2015 for sodomy.

Anwar’s last known meeting with Dr Mahathir was on Sept 5, 2016, when the two met for the first time in 18 years.

Dr Mahathir was barred from meeting Anwar at the hospital on Jan 10, three days after he was formally announced as Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister-designate, with Anwar’s wife, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, named as the deputy prime minister-designate if the Opposition wins in the general election. – The Star
