PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said he had been forthcoming with his Amanah counterpart Mohamad Sabu over plans by the latter’s state assemblypersons to switch parties.
This is after at least five Amanah assemblypersons joined PKR over the past several months.
“They chose to join PKR, but in the early stages, we asked them to discuss this with Amanah first.
“I myself informed the Amanah president about their plans, and my early advice (to them) was that they should consult the Amanah president,” Anwar told reporters in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan today.
On Saturday, it was reported that three Johor Amanah assemblypersons had joined PKR and that the move began in September last year.
Last year, it was also reported that two Selangor Amanah assemblypersons had joined PKR.
Former Pahang Amanah chief Hamzah Jaafar had also joined PKR last year but is now with Pejuang.
PKR’s move to accept Amanah defectors had ruffled feathers in Pakatan Harapan, with Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub and DAP’s Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh among those criticising the move.
Anwar, however, assured that Harapan’s ties are not affected by the internal defections.
“We want this to be discussed and solved amicably between PKR and Amanah,” he also said. – Malaysiakini
