Narrow escape for late-night cineplex patrons when car ploughs into them and right through mall’s glass wall entrance.
A BMW driven by a salesman from Kulai ploughed into a group of people queuing to pay their parking tickets at a kiosk near the entrance to a mall in Bukit Indah, Johor Baru, early this morning.
The incident occurred at 12.30am when a crowd comprising mostly cinema-goers were leaving the mall after catching late-night films at the cineplex.
The 25-year-old driver was trying to park his car near the entrance of the mall but he overran the parking spot and veered into the crowd.
The crash also damaged the mall’s glass wall entrance, which shattered when the driver drove right through it, before stopping in the middle of a walkway.
The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous and reckless driving, according to Iskandar Puteri deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Kumarasan Muniandy.
“Five mall patrons were injured and rushed to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
Fortunately, the victims only suffered minor injuries and there was no fatality,” Kumarasan said.
