Umno has instructed its youth chief Dr Akmal Salleh to stop discussing the controversial socks issue, says Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

The Sabah Umno chief said it had been revealed that KK Super Mart owners had no control over the supply and had publicly apologised over the incident.

“It is not a matter of whether we agree or disagree with Dr Akmal. Umno has already directed him to stop during a recent meeting,” Bung said when asked if Sabah Umno agreed with Dr Akmal’s stance.

He added that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also called for an end to the issue.

“To me, the call from His Majesty and the party president is sufficient. If it occurred in the Peninsula, please do not bring it here,” he said.

It is unclear when the Umno supreme council told Akmal to stop harping on the KK Mart issue.

Two weeks ago, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the supreme council had given its full support for the Youth chief’s stance on the socks scandal.
