Melaka Police Chief Datuk Wira Zainol Samah said that in addition to the woman, her son Ezuan Hafsham Mohd Hisyam, 22, will also be charged.

“The investigation papers for the case have been received from the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office (DPP), and further instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers are to charge both individuals tomorrow.

“The woman will be charged under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, while her son will be charged under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588),” he said when contacted.

The State Prosecution Director, Ahmad Sazali Omar, will handle the case at the Melaka Court Complex in Ayer Keroh.

Earlier media reports stated that the police had completed the investigation papers and referred them to the DPP’s Office for further action.

In the course of the investigation, the police also questioned and recorded statements from 14 other witnesses besides Mariyah.

On Nov 27, the Johor Baru-based entrepreneur apologised during a follow-up press conference regarding her statements linking Malays to laziness, which sparked controversy and public outrage. – NST
