Chef Detained for Murder Probe

Body found near a burnt car belonging to the victim’s friend.

A chef has been detained to help with investigations into the murder of Liu Chee Wei, 25, who was found dead with a stab wound on his chest in Taman Arked, Sungai Petani.

On Monday, police received a call regarding the discovery of a body at about 3.07pm. A torched car was found about 100 metres away.

Initial investigation showed the victim (inset pix above) was from Nibong Tebal in Penang and he came to Sungai Petani driving his friend’s car.

On the same day, at about 8.30pm, a suspect was detained in Sungai Petani. It was learned that he was the victim’s friend and also the owner of the burnt vehicle.

The 20-year-old suspect, who works as a chef in Penang, has been remanded for three days starting today.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Police have ruled out robbery as the victim still had his valuables. They believe two men, who were known to the victim, were involved in the incident.

Police also revealed that there were marks on Liu’s body which could be the result of a scuffle.
