The transit and other markets in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, will be shuttered from 10am tomorrow, a Health Department notice revealed today.

The markets surrounding the Jalan Raja Bot area will be closed for sanitisation against germs and pests to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

The notice was issued by the Titiwangsa Health Office under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

It is not known if the health authorities have detected any positive Covid-19 cases there.

The Malaysian Insight has contacted Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Health Ministry and is waiting for a reply.

The market has become a source of greens for city folk after the Selayang market was shuttered due to the detection of Covid-19 infection among its workers last week.

Two markets in Petaling Jaya – Taman Megah and the Jalan Othman markets in old town – were recently closed for sanitation after several workers tested positive for Covid-19.

The workers at the Petaling Jaya markets are believed to have been infected by those in the Selayang market cluster.

The Selayang wholesale market was shut down for four days and reopened on Friday.

Another wholesale market, Pasar Borong Harian, also in Selayang, was closed on April 21 and remains shut.

Eight parcels of land surrounding the market were placed under an enhanced movement control order until May 3.

Positive Covid-19 cases were detected at both the Taman Megah and Jalan Othman markets.

Traders at the Taman Megah market began health screenings today while the traders at the Jalan Othman market will undergo tests from 9am tomorrow. – TMI
