Outgoing state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow says he will let delegates decide on the suggestion to have Human Resources Minister Steven Sim lead Penang DAP.

The Penang Chief Minister said the proposal, mooted by party secretary-general Anthony Loke, was worth considering as the party plans for the future.

Loke had also proposed for Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying to continue as the state secretary.

“I believe the secretary-general has carefully evaluated this option before proposing the leadership combination of Sim and Lim.

“Ultimately, it is up to the delegates to make the final decision,” he said today.

Chow’s comments followed Loke’s recent interview with a Chinese-language daily, where he revealed the “Sim-Lim” formula.

Loke had said the “Sim-Lim” combined leadership would strengthen the party.

It was reported before this that a total of 31 candidates would contest in the Penang DAP state elections on Sept 22.

Of these, the top 15 with the highest votes would be elected to the state committee.

Notable candidates include Sim and Lim, who are expected to take over the chairmanship from Chow after he declined a nomination.

Despite stepping down as state DAP chairman, Chow would continue as Chief Minister until the end of his term, according to Loke. – NST
