Lance Corporal Valentino Mesa, 29, was found in a pool of blood by policemen during a routine patrol stop at Pinggiran Subang Jaya police station on Jalan TP 7/2 in Subang Jaya at about 3.25am.

It is believed that Mesa, who was from Sarawak, was on duty alone at the station’s information counter at the time.

The Star reported that Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said policemen arrived to find the station in darkness.

“The lights were turned off. When they went in, they found him,” Mazlan said.

The victim, who was shot once and slashed on the back of his head, joined the police force in 2010.

According to Mazlan, several witnesses said they had heard explosions at around 2.40am but dismissed it as fireworks to celebrate National Day.

“We believe that could have been the time the incident took place,” he said.

The victim’s pistol was also missing from the scene.

There was no CCTV in the police station but police are checking CCTV footage from the surrounding area.

Mazlan said preliminary investigation has not found any evidence of personal issues like debts.

However, he did not rule out that the victim knew his attacker as he was shot at close range.

“We are also not ruling out that there could be more than one assailant,” he added,

Mazlan said police will go all out to bring the culprits to justice and urged anyone with information to contact the police immediately.
