Police have recorded statements from 37 individuals over the murder of a female school bookshop supervisor allegedly involving a security guard.

Cheras police chief Idzam Jaafar said police had also obtained an extension to the remand order against a 34-year-old suspect to facilitate the investigation.

“So far, police have taken statements from 37 individuals,” Idzam told reporters today.

“The suspect is being remanded for another six days until March 25 to facilitate the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.”

He said the police investigation was almost complete and the investigation paper would be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor in the near future.

The charred body of the woman, 25, was discovered following a fire on March 12 at the secondary school in Bandar Tun Razak, where both she and the suspect worked. It was reported that the victim had no relationship with the suspect.

Idzam said the police were waiting for the post-mortem report from Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz.

The incident raised questions on the vetting process for security guards after police revealed that the suspect had four previous convictions, including outraging of modesty and snatch theft.
