Police will today question Puteri Umno vice-chief Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi, who allegedly incited racial and religious tensions over an amok incident in Penang last week.

She will have her statement recorded at Bukit Aman under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for public mischief with intent to incite, or which is likely to incite, people.

Nurul Amal is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, which deals with the improper use of network facilities or services.

“She will be released on police bail after her statement is recorded,” Criminal Investigation Department prosecution and legal division principal assistant director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told a press conference at the federal police headquarters this morning.

Last week, Nurul Amal told a ceramah in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, that the Penang man shot dead by cops had run amok after his co-workers made insulting remarks about Islam.

She made the comments after Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador warned the public against inciting tensions over the incident.

“Yesterday, a martyr was laid to rest. Sheikh Mohd Khairil was shot because he went amok in front of two kafirs who insulted Prophet Muhammad,” the Puteri Umno leader was quoted as saying.

On September 23, the 25-year-old quality-control inspector at a multinational factory attacked two colleagues. He was gunned down when he turned on police officers responding to the incident.
