Tun Daim Zainuddin’s daughter, Asnida Daim, arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex on Tuesday (April 7) to face graft charges linked to an alleged failure to declare assets.

Wearing a mask and sunglasses, she appeared in court after her statement had been recorded at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters for about five hours from 10am on Monday (April 6).

Her lawyer, Yu Ying Ying, confirmed that she will be charged under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009, which relates to the offence of failing to comply with a written notice from the MACC to declare assets.

In a related development, the MACC said it will seek an Interpol Red Notice against two of Daim’s sons, Muhammed Amir Zainuddin Daim and Muhammed Amin Zainuddin Daim, after they failed to appear at its headquarters despite being ordered to do so under three notices dated Feb 13, March 11 and April 6.

“Their legal representatives had previously indicated their commitment to attend on April 6, but both once again failed to do so without any reasonable excuse,” the commission said in a statement on Monday (April 6).

An associate of Daim, Josephine Premla Sivaretnam, also failed to appear without a satisfactory reason despite being instructed by the MACC.

The commission said it would work with the Immigration Department to restrict and monitor the movements and passport status of those involved following their failure to give statements.

However, it noted that Asnida Abdul Daim attended and cooperated with the MACC, while Md Wira Dani Daim had informed the commission in advance of his absence.

“MACC stresses that it will not compromise on such non-compliance and will take firm action.”

The individuals concerned will also face legal action under Section 48(c) of the MACC Act 2009 for failing to comply with an order to attend for examination under Section 30(1)(a) of the same Act.
