The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has defended its decision to pursue a murder charge in a fatal crash in Klang, as questions continue over the legal strategy and case progress.

The case centres on technician R Saktygaanapathy, 28, who was charged with murdering Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, following a deadly incident on Jalan Raya Barat on March 29. No plea was recorded as the charge falls under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

The crash reportedly occurred at about 11.40am on Sunday, when the suspect’s car, said to be travelling at high speed, struck a motorcycle head-on while overtaking several vehicles. The impact threw Amirul onto a Perodua Myvi, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amirul’s widow, Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, expressed relief at the prosecution’s decision.

“I am very, very thankful and satisfied with the murder charge. I feel very relieved,” she said.

She had earlier stated she wanted “an eye for an eye”.

Her lawyer, Faizi Che Abu, said the family intends to file a RM1 million civil suit over Amirul’s death, although the respondents have yet to be named.

However, it remains unclear what has happened to the broader case, as media coverage appears to have stopped after the accused was charged, with no further updates since. Malaysiakini is contacting one of the accused’s lawyers for clarification.

The situation has drawn comparisons to another ongoing case in Terengganu, where Norizan Ismail faces murder charges over a road crash that killed three Universiti Teknologi Mara Dungun students and involved the attempted murder of another. That case is still ongoing.
