Covid-19: 1,054 New Cases, Record High of 12 Deaths

The Health Ministry today reported a record high of 12 deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, as Malaysia recorded 1,054 new cases.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press conference today said the 12 deaths bring the total death toll in the country to 263.

The previous record was 10 deaths reported on October 23.

All 12 fatalities today comprised Sabahans.

Dr Noor Hisham said the number of daily cases hit four digits for the second time with 1,054 new infections detected in the last 24 hours, pushing the total to 34,393 cases.

He said the bulk of cases had come from Sabah with 678 infections.

“A total of 310 cases reported were related to prison clusters and at temporary detention centres.

“Of that number, the Rumah Merah cluster accounted for 229 cases,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also said there were 875 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 23,995.

He revealed that 94 cases are in intensive care, with 32 requiring ventilator support.
