Covid-19: 18 New Cases

Only one Malaysian among today’s 18 cases.

The Health Ministry today recorded 18 new Covid-19 cases, of which 14 were locally transmitted involving foreigners.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the four remaining cases were imported infections.

“The import cases involve three Malaysians and one foreigner who was allowed to enter Malaysia on work matters.

“All 14 local cases in the country were detected among foreigners in Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur. There are no cases among Malaysian citizens,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the 14 cases, nine were detected during the Pedas cluster repeated screening, two among the Sepang immigration depot screening, one who was screened before starting work at a construction site in Kuala Lumpur, and two detected during screening in Sabah.

“Of the two cases in Sabah, one was identified during screening for inmates before release from prison and another a Severe Respiratory Acute Infection case,” he said.

To date, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country stands at 8,634 with 195 active cases and only two cases are currently in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Meanwhile, he said 10 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospitals, increasing the total number of recoveries to 8,318 cases or 96.3%.

He also said no deaths were recorded today, with the death toll remaining at 121 (1.4%).

To date, Noor Hisham said a total of 60,298 foreign nationals had been screened for Covid-19 in the country.

Of that number, 2,575 (4.3%) tested positive, 57,441 (95.3%) tested negative while 282 (0.4%) are still awaiting results.

Of those who tested positive, 105 are still being treated.
