Malaysia reported 41 new cases today, bringing total infections to 8,494.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total number of active cases to 973.
He said of the 41 new cases, three are imported cases, while 38 cases are local transmissions, with 32 involving foreigners while the remaining six are Malaysians.
“The 38 local transmission cases involved 32 foreigners and six Malaysians.
“For cases involving non-Malaysians, 31 cases were reported in Negri Sembilan where 15 cases were under the Pedas cluster, 14 cases at the Port Dickson Immigration Academy where detainees from the Bukit Jalil Immigration detention centre were kept and two were under the cleaning company cluster, with the last case reported in Kuala Lumpur.
“For cases involving Malaysians, two cases were reported in Selangor and Melaka respectively, and one each in Negri Sembilan and Sabah,” he told the Covid-19 press conference today.
From the six cases, three had close contact with Covid-19 patients, two were from a tahfiz group and the remaining one was a 69-year-old senior citizen with acute respiratory infection from an old folks’ home in Kuala Selangor.
He said the three imported cases were Malaysians who returned from Singapore. They were a 9-month-old baby girl, a 13-year-old female student, and a 54-year-old man.
Dr Noor Hisham said 54 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, bringing the total recovered cases to 7,400.
He said four patients were being treated at the intensive care unit.
He added that no new deaths was reported today, keeping the death toll at 121.
