Five new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country today.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were currently 177 active cases which had been isolated and were undergoing treatment. This brings the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 9,296.
“From the five new cases, three were local transmissions involving all Malaysians and detected in Melaka, while two others were imported and detected in Selangor.

“The imported cases were Malaysians who returned from the Philippines and Egypt,” he said at a press conference today.
Meanwhile, the local transmissions involved two pre-operation patients at the Armed Forces Hospital at Terendak Camp. One patient was detected through Covid-19 screening after showing symptoms such as cough and sore throat.
Dr Noor Hisham said 16 more Covid-19 patients had recovered from the disease and were discharged today.
He said the overall number of patients who had fully recovered as of noon today stood at 8,994 (96.8 percent) of the cumulative confirmed cases of Covid-19.
“Eight patients are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), six of them are under ventilator support,” he said.
He said no new death was reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), and the death toll remained at 125 (1.35 percent of the cumulative cases).

He said the public should avoid the 3Cs namely confined spaces, crowded spaces and having conversation in close proximity.
Dr Noor Hisham also urged people to practise the 3Ws namely washing (hands with water and soap), wearing (face masks in public or if showing Covid-19 symptoms) and warning (heed reminders from Health Ministry) in the efforts to break the chain of Covid-19 infections. – NST
