The Health Ministry today reported 801 new Covid-19 cases today and eight deaths in the past 24 hours.
Of the 801 new cases, only two did not involve local transmissions.
The new infections brought the cumulative number of infections to 29,441 as at 12pm today, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The number of active cases has crossed the 10,000-mark.
With 546 cases today, Sabah continued to report the highest number of new cases followed by Selangor and Labuan.
There were no new cases reported in Putrajaya, Perlis, Kelantan, Pahang and Melaka.
Most of these cases came from existing clusters and screening of close contacts of positive cases.
Today’s deaths raise the tally to 246 since the virus broke out in Malaysia.
Seven deaths were reported in Sabah and one in Selangor.
Four of the deaths in Sabah were reported at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, all involving citizens.
Another citizen passed away at the Tawau Hospital while two foreigners passed away at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.
Four victims had sequential Covid-19 case numbers, indicating that they passed away very soon before or after their test results were returned.
The cumulative Covid-19 death toll for Sabah has hit 114, of which 101 were reported this month alone.
Dr Noor Hisham said there were 573 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 19,072.
A total of 10,123 people are still being treated, with 94 receiving intensive care, of which 25 require respiratory assistance.
