Covid-19: Record-high 5,725 cases

Malaysia today reported a record-high 5,725 daily positive Covid-19 cases, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The previous high of 4,275 daily cases was recorded on Jan 23.

The latest cases raised the nation’s caseload to 203,933.

Dr Noor Hisham said that of the total today, 5,718 cases involved Malaysians while the seven import cases comprised five Malaysians and two foreigners. This also brings the total number of active cases currently to 45,478.

Of today’s cases, Selangor reported 3,126 cases or 54% of today’s total infections, the highest ever a state had recorded to date.

Kuala Lumpur and Johor follow in the top-three state tally with 687 and 684 cases, respectively.

Dr Noor Hisham added that 3,423 patients were discharged from hospitals.

“There are 301 patients currently being treated in the intensive care unit, with 115 of them intubated,” he said on his official Twitter account.

Of them, 301 patients were admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 115 of them required respiratory assistance.

He said 16 more fatalities were recorded today, taking the death toll in the country to 733.
