Malaysia needs a good Opposition that can propose competitive policies and not one that stokes racial sentiments, said Liew Chin Tong.

“Barisan Nasional and MCA have not received the people’s message from GE14,” he said, adding that the message is for a new Malaysia where everyone exists as Anak Malaysia.
The DAP National Political Education Director had joined Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Balakong by-election Wong Siew Ki at a walkabout in Sungai Chua on Sunday (Sept 2).
Liew said the Opposition party continues to play on racial sentiments while former premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak remains as the main spokesperson for Barisan.
He said MCA cannot play a check and balance to the government if it does not accept the people’s message.
“The voters need to use this opportunity to send the Opposition a message to become competitive with the Government in terms of policies and new ideas on how to develop this new Malaysia instead of exploiting racial sentiments,” he added.
Liew, who is also Deputy Defence Minister, said it would be healthy for the country if MCA combined with the moderate members in Umno to send a message of moderation and come up with competitive policies.
“That is what we call a constructive Opposition, an opposition that can check and balance the Government.
“An Opposition that plays up racial sentiments is not good for the country,” Liew added. – The Star
