A gang of six masked robbers pulled off a daring heist in broad daylight at Poh Kong outlet at AEON shopping centre in Rawang yesterday in full view of shocked shoppers.
In the 6.45pm incident, the six arrived on three motorcycles and pulled over near the entrance of the shopping centre before barging into the shop located only about 100 metres from the entrance.
A few videos of the incident uploaded on Facebook by shoppers have been widely shared on social media since Friday.
In one video, three robbers wearing helmets are seen inside the outlet armed with two sledgehammers and what is believed to be a pistol. After smashing four glass showcases, they scoop handfuls of jewellery into their bags.
It was all over within a couple of minutes, with the robbers escaping with a loot that is believed to be in the tens of thousands.
Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Ali Ahmad said there were four employees and two customers in the store during the incident but they were unharmed.
“One of the robbers shot at the ceiling but fortunately no one was injured,” Ali was reported as saying.
He said police have obtained closed-circuit television recordings and were in the midst of identifying the suspects.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
