The two deputy prime ministers have been given important tasks to tackle following the special cabinet meeting today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said besides having specific roles, the two DPMs also shared a role to bridge the development divide between urban and rural areas for two separate regions.
In terms of specific roles, he said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will chair the disaster management committee. Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will expedite efforts to restore the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), said Anwar.
“Both my deputies will also bridge the differences in terms of development between towns and the urban areas especially at the areas occupied by poor people.
“Zahid will be in charge of the peninsula and Fadillah for Sabah and Sarawak.
“I prefer not to take charge of the powers,” Anwar said.
