Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun will recuse himself from making any decision on a motion pertaining to Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun, who is also his brother.

This was after his office received the motion from Ipoh Barat member of Parliament M Kulasegaran dated July 29, which he said had matters concerning the Attorney-General.

“As publicly known, Idrus Harun is my brother. Therefore, I have made a decision to recuse myself from making any decision regarding, with respect to, or in any way related with the motion in question.

“Any decision regarding, with respect to, or in any way related with the motion, I will leave to the Deputy Speakers according to their seniority, with the first being Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon and second, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

“I will not in any way interfere in the matters of the deputy speakers on this,” he said in a statement today.

He stressed that he would not interfere in any way in the discharge of duties by the Deputy Speakers in matters related to the motion.

Kulasegaran, in a letter dated July 29 to the Dewan Rakyat secretary, proposed a motion to take appropriate action against Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Idrus, for allegedly misleading the Dewan Rakyat.

The motion seeks appropriate action against Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Idrus, for allegedly misleading the Dewan Rakyat that the emergency ordinances had been revoked.

The motion by Kulasegaran described this as treasonous (“derhaka”) and called for both of them to be censured.
