The second meeting of the Third Term of the 14th Parliament will kick off on July 13 and will last for 25 days until Aug 27, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said in a statement today.

He said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin officially informed him of the matter in a letter.

“The 25-day sitting will begin with a motion of thanks to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, a debate on the royal address, bills and other government affairs,” he said.

Ariff said the tabling of the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), which was scheduled on Aug 6, however, will be postponed to a new date which will be determined later.

He said the postponement was made after taking into consideration the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

“The postponement would also allow the government to undertake more research and engagement with stakeholders.”

He added that the sitting of the Lower House of Parliament will pause for Hari Raya Aidiladha on July 31 and for Awal Muharram between Aug 19 and 20.

In the statement, Ariff said the third meeting of the Dewan Rakyat will run for 27 days from Nov 2 until Dec 15.

“The Supply Bill (Budget 2021), presented by the Finance Minister, will be moved from Oct 2 to Nov 6 at 4pm,” he said.

Ariff added that the changes were made in accordance with Rule 11 (2) and 15 (2) of the Dewan Rakyat Standing Order.

He said that Dewan Rakyat secretary Riduan Rahmat will be issuing a notice to all Members of Parliament on the sitting.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, opened the first meeting of the Third Term of the 14th Parliament in May.

It was only a single-day sitting amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, and was conducted in accordance with Article 55 of the Federal Constitution, which states that only the King can summon Parliament to meet within six months between the last proceeding in the last session and the date for its first proceeding in the next session. – NST
