A disciplinary teacher was charged in the Penang magistrate’s court yesterday with murdering his wife with a clothes rack last week.

Lim Fong Aun, 42, was charged with murdering T Shanti, a tuition teacher, by hitting her head with the clothes rack at their home in Taman Seri Indah, Jalan Abdul Arif, Ayer Itam, at 10pm last Nov 18.

However, no plea was recorded from Lim after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate L Umma Devi.

Lim was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and will face the mandatory death sentence, upon conviction.

The court set Dec 27 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Syafiq Mohd Sazali prosecuted, while Lim was represented by lawyer RSN Rayer.

It was reported that Lim surrendered himself at the Kulim police headquarters at 4.30pm on Nov 19.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Che Zaimani Che Awang had said that a quarrel broke out between Lim and his wife at about 10pm.

The accused then left the house at about 11pm and went back to his family’s home in Kulim.

The next morning, he returned to find his wife no longer breathing.

The couple had been married for 10 years but do not have any children.
