Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, known for his stubbornness in refusing to admit any wrongs, today spoke about the “biggest mistake of his life”.
At a rally in Desa Pandan, within the parliamentary constituency of Titiwangsa, Mahathir apologised to the more than 1,500-strong crowd.
“The biggest mistake of my life is choosing Najib Abdul Razak (as prime minister).
“I am now working hard to correct this mistake,” said the former premier.
Mahathir had in the past joked that he was “perfect” when asked if he had any regrets.
The crowd, which was drenched in the persistent drizzle, treated Mahathir like a rockstar, chanting “We want Tun, we love Tun, and long live Tun”.
Bersatu women chief Rina Harun will be contesting in the parliamentary seat of Titiwangsa against Umno’s incumbent Johari Abdul Ghani, who is also caretaker finance minister.
PAS’ Mohamad Noor Mohamad is also contesting in the seat.
In the last general election, Johari won the seat with a razor-thin 866-vote majority.
He garnered 23,034 votes to 22,168 won by PAS, which was at the time part of Pakatan Rakyat.
More specifically, in the Desa Pandan polling district where Harapan hosted its ceramah, BN had won the area in the last general election.
BN garnered 1,341 votes to PAS’ 1,192 votes at the time. – Malaysiakini
