Dr Mahathir Mohamad has alleged that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin deliberately lied to Parliament over the revocation of the Emergency Ordinances.
This, he said, could be seen following the statement made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today expressing disappointment over the statement made in the special Parliament sitting that the government had revoked the six Emergency Ordinances introduced during the State of Emergency period.
“He (Muhyiddin) must know that he has no power to revoke the Ordinances on his own.
“But still the announcement was made, as if he had the power when such powers are solely in the hands of the King during the emergency,” Dr Mahathir said in a statement.
The former prime minister said though the announcement was made by de-facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Muhyiddin made no attempt to correct or stop Takiyuddin despite witnessing the event, nor had he made any clarification the following day.
He added that Muhyiddin cannot absolve himself of the responsibility.
“Muhyiddin is therefore responsible for this shameful act as also the rest of the Cabinet members.
“Therefore, it is incumbent upon him to resign as Prime Minister and his Cabinet members must follow suit,” said the Langkawi Member of Parliament. – NST
